JOB DESCRIPTION:  Executive Director

The Executive Director has overall responsibility for financial and operational management of the organization and is responsible for carrying out the strategic priorities of the center as determined by the Board of Directors. The Executive Director will be a strong and collaborative leader with a proven track record in financial management, fundraising, programming and operational supervision. Excellent written and oral communications along with creativity and networking will be skills possessed by the Executive Director. The Executive Director position reports to the Board of Directors.

RESPONSIBILITIES (categories listed in order of priority)

Resource Development and Fiscal Responsibility

  • Fundraising and resource development is the primary responsibility of the Executive Director, working in collaboration with the Board of Directors
  • Develop and expand relationships with corporate and institutional donors
  • Assume ultimate accountability for securing resources needed to support the organization’s mission and strategic plan through individual and major donor cultivation, annual events, memberships, sponsorships and grant writing
  • Develop and manage organizational budget in partnership with Board of Directors

Organizational Management & Leadership

  • Develop and sustain programming consistent with the mission and strategic plan of the organization
  • Develop work plans to carry out strategic plan
  • Recruit, orient, supervise and train staff/ volunteers, pursuant to organizational policy and procedures
  • Motivate staff and volunteers in accomplishing responsibilities and goals through empowerment and team work
  • Work with Director of Education and Youth Services to maintain and grow youth leadership programs
  • Provide oversight in matters of technology and work with Board to address the ongoing operational needs of the center, including office space

 External Relations and Outreach

  • Provide leadership to the LGBT community by generating innovative ways to provide service
  • Develop and provide oversight for organizational communication and marketing plans
  • Support organizational partnerships and programming in conjunction with partners
  • Represent the Center to the public and work to increase awareness of the organization
  • Cultivate key relationships on behalf of the organization through outreach and collaboration across the community

Board of Director Relations

  • Work in partnership with Board and committees on appropriate issues, policies, and strategic direction
  • Provide complete, effective and timely information to the Board of Directors to help its members make informed decisions
  • Provide for measurement of strategic plan goals

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS  

Professional Qualities Desired

  • Proven Leadership – ability to lead through growth and challenges, with proven conflict resolution skills

  • Strong Motivational and Team Building Skills

  • Financial Management and Budgeting Experience

  • Demonstrated Proficiency in Fundraising

  • Excellent Internal and External Communication Skills, including public speaking, presentation and writing skills

  • Strategic Planning and Analysis

  • Proficient Computer Skills, including word processing, spreadsheet and database design and management, specifically experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Sales Force

  • Grant writing Experience

Other Key Qualities

  • History of working with LGBT community, with thorough knowledge of and commitment to LGBT issues
  • Nonprofit knowledge and experience, including an understanding of nonprofit finances, familiarity with the role of a nonprofit board, and the Executive Director’s relationship with the board
  • Ability to work with community partners and organization’s diverse constituents, as well as ability to develop a strong network with key figures in the LGBT community and beyond
  • Enthusiasm and dedication to inspire staff, volunteers and donors
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s in relevant field a plus
  • Event planning and project management experience helpful
